ShotLyst

For a brighter future where inspiration does not end in a folder full of saved images.

Project Overview

Creators are very good at collecting inspiration. We screenshot lighting setups, save frames from films, build Pinterest boards, bookmark photographs, trade references with clients, and accumulate thousands of images that somehow never make it past the mood board. ShotLyst is a Truesight venture built around the missing step between “I love this” and “I know how I’m going to shoot it.”

The product helps photographers, filmmakers, content creators, and small creative teams collect references, understand what makes them work, connect those ideas to the equipment available, and turn them into practical shot plans. AI is part of the experience, but it is not the point of the product. ShotLyst exists to help creators make decisions. The intelligence should disappear into the workflow and leave the person behind the camera with something more useful than another generated answer: a plan.

The Gap

Mood boards are excellent at communicating taste and surprisingly poor at explaining execution. A reference image can show exactly what a creator wants something to feel like while providing almost no practical guidance for reproducing the lighting, composition, lens behavior, camera position, styling, or production decisions behind it.

That translation is still largely manual. Creators jump between reference folders, notes apps, gear lists, shot lists, messaging threads, and their own experience trying to reverse-engineer what they see.

Generative AI introduced another possibility, but also another problem: confidence. A model can make useful observations about an image while still presenting inferred details as though they were facts. ShotLyst needed to make intelligence genuinely helpful without pretending it knows information the image cannot prove.

The Results

ShotLyst turned an open-ended idea—“use AI to help plan photography”—into a product with a specific job to do and a coherent path through it.

The resulting system connects inspiration, visual analysis, personal equipment, shot planning, and on-set execution without asking the creator to reconstruct the project across several different apps. AI is given a defined role inside that system: useful enough to accelerate thinking, constrained enough to deserve trust.

For the portfolio, ShotLyst demonstrates product strategy around an emerging technology rather than simply adding AI to an interface. The value comes from deciding where intelligence belongs, where it does not, and how it can help a creator move from an idea on a screen to something made in the real world.
