Overview
Make a handoff easier to follow
A written note can be too thin for a visual problem, while a meeting can be too much for a simple walkthrough. Loom lets a person record their screen and voice to explain work asynchronously. It helps when the recording has a clear purpose and a place in the workflow, rather than becoming another link people are expected to watch without direction.
We identify moments where showing the work would reduce back-and-forth: design review, a handoff, a software walkthrough, or a response to a client question. Then we decide what the viewer should be able to do afterward.
What We Do With it
Useful recordings and a clear route back
We can design lightweight practices for recording updates, naming videos, adding context, and linking them to a project or knowledge base. We keep the message focused and make the requested action explicit. When a recording contains a decision or an instruction that must remain available, we also capture the essential outcome in a durable written record. Access and sharing are part of the setup, especially when outside collaborators are involved.
How We Use It
Try a real review cycle
We record a representative walkthrough and ask the intended viewer to complete the next step. We check whether the video is short enough, whether the context is clear, and whether questions have an obvious place to return. We revise the practice if recordings create more searching than understanding.
A good asynchronous handoff gives people the information they need while protecting time for focused work and thoughtful responses.
